Keep Jervis Bay Unspoilt is a key project of Our Future Shoalhaven
  • Instagram
  • Facebook

Main aims of KJBU are to ensure that development is

  • sympathetic with the character of the area.

  • respects and protects existing and adjacent environments, including the biodiversity of our flora and fauna and the pristine waters of our waterways and Jervis Bay.

  • and does not unduly detract from the amenity of local residents and the wider tourist community.

  •

What does KJBU do?

  • We keep an eye on proposed developments in the catchment for the Bay, and monitoring the building constructions where approved, if controversy exists.

  • Promote awareness of relevant public consultation opportunities such as on the review to the Marine Parks, Government enquiry into Zombie DA's, Local Planning reviews, Environmental Law updates.

  • Examine the research and call for greater monitoring of water quality and key ecological indicators

News October 2026

Our greatest concern at present are two large developments in close vicinity to Moona Moona Creek. Separately and together these two developments will have a huge impact on:

  • The natural environment of this area, loss of sensitive biodiversity including endangered fauna and flora

  • Harm to the waterways of Moona Moona Creek and Jervis Bay itself

  • Traffic and intersections near Moona Moona Creek bridge and between our villages

  • The liveability of the area and pressure on the public amenities.

What the issue is

Bringing the Gold Coast to the South Coast. 77 apartments across 2 multi storey blocks. 130 car spaces in an underground carpark on flood zoned land.  Increased storm water run off into a fragile aquatic environment and into the marine park. Seeking height variation.  100m from Moona Moona Creek Reserve.  Increased traffic.  An adjacent and already approved zombie DA (4 Murdoch st.) for 32 apartments.

We are asking Council for an extension to the submission date so community has time to respond but if you feel that this is not the right development for this sensitive area get your submission in today.

We are soliciting independent reports on landscaping and environmental impact as well the building plans and the effect of this development on local residents. We will provide updates on the development here (link to dedicated 3 Moona st site).

We want to be clear this is not "Nimbyism" This isn't about anybody’s back yard. This is community caring for the National and Marine Park they have a responsibility to protect.

What the issue is

An approved DA for 32 apartments, and probably submission of another DA for a hotel and two block os apartments on a site that is environmentally, and culturally important and also vulnerable to increasing flooding.

Moona Moona Creek is one of several creeks that flow into Jervis Bay. It is a designated significant wetland by Shoalhaven City Council.

The extensive estuarine wetlands of Moona Moona Creek contain three threatened plant species: Wilsonia backhousei, W. rotundifolia and the grass Distichlis distichophylla. Two endangered ecological communities (EECs) listed under the Threatened Species Conservation Act are represented in the wetlands: Coastal Saltmarsh and Swamp Oak Floodplain Forest. In the middle reaches of Moona Moona Creek adjacent to Naval College Road, there occurs the only known population of the threatened plant Melaleuca biconvexa in the area.

The area is also a significant Aboriginal site: middens have been found neafrby, and given its colonial history is now known as a sorry site.

Over the last 80? years it has been a cornerstone water play area for families with small children; shaded lawn and shallow water safe from swells and strong currents.  Our greatest concern at present are two large developments in close vicinity to Moona Moona Creek.  Separately and together these two developments will have a huge impact on: •traffic and intersections near Moona Moona Creek bridge and between our villages •loss of environmentally sensitive biodiversity including increased runoff into Moona Moona Creek and the Jervis Bay Marine Park.
